Teaching Record and University Service
I hold the University of Western Australia’s inaugural Distinguished Teaching Award, 1988; also, when eligible again, the University’s commendations for undergraduate teaching and for postgraduate supervision excellence 1995 and 1996. In November 1996 I was named in the national Campus Review on a list of the top university teachers of history in Australia. In November 1997 the University of Western Australia awarded History 104 “Aboriginal Histories of Australia” (taught jointly with the Centre for Aboriginal Programs) a prize for the best unit in the University.
Within the University of Western Australia I have chaired the University of Western Australia Press, chaired the South West Region Publications Fund Committee, been Acting Head of the Department of History, served on the University’s Academic Board, the Teaching and Learning Committee, the Scholarships Committee, ARC Grants Committee (I am also a national assessor for the ARC) and so on. I have served also on nearly all Faculty and Departmental Boards and Committees, including the new Faculty of Arts Community Relations Committee. I have been convenor of the Department of History’s Equity Committee.
