Beliefs and Commitments
The Mission of the Woodside Valley Foundation is to work in the public interest to secure for current and future generations the spirit, lives and vision of the great maritime explorers and scientists whose achievements are the heritage on which life in Western Australia is founded, particularly to:
- Retrieving, for public benefit, significant documents, maps and related artefacts, relating to Western Australia's pre-settlement history
- Encouraging research and education related to this heritage
- Working with others in these purposes so that high quality learning experiences are available to all those who understand the importance of this history to Australia
The Objectives adopted by the Board for the period 2006–2009 are to:
- Work with institutions and individuals with common or overlapping responsibilities to achieve the Foundations objectives through initiatives in partnership;
- Cooperate with other public and private organizations to collect, preserve and display collectables relevant to the Mission of the Foundation;
- Encourage research on Western Australia's rich maritime and exploration history;
- Create a comprehensive information data base of historically important artworks and artefacts currently secured within Western Australia and maintain vigilance for opportunities to acquire important properties currently held elsewhere;
- Assist in the publication of works that relate to the Mission and Objectives of the Foundation;
- Work in partnership with others to promote community activities that relate to all aspects of Western Australia’s maritime exploration; and to
- Raise funds to allow the Foundation to secure its position in Western Australia and to carry out its Mission.
