The Mission of Woodside Valley Foundation is to secure for future generations the spirit, lives and vision of the great maritime explorers and scientists whose achievements are the heritage on which life in Western Australia is founded.
The Woodside Valley Foundation was launched on the 23 June 2003 at the Art Gallery of Western Asutralia in front of almost 200 involved guests including the Hon. Sheila McHale, Minister of Culture and Arts and the Hon. Tom Stephens, Minister for Local Government and Regional Development.
The Foundation was the brainchild of its Founder, Peter Woods, whose interest in Western Australia's early maritime history had developed through his friendship with the late Professor Leslie Marchant.
The Woodside Valley Foundation believes that there is a low level of community understanding of the discovery of Western Australia and of the role of distinguished explorers, mariners and scientists in our pre-colonial history. The Foundation has a particular interest in the early French and Dutch exploration that largely preceded British interest in Australia's West Coast.
